COLUMN: More irritating stuff (opens the original)
Read excerpt
I havenât been very curmudgeonly in my column lately, so I thought Iâd do some griping and complaining about trivial stuff. Iâve really got nothing else to write about this morning and my deadline is just four hours from now, so Iâve got to slap something together, or that ornery editor of mine is liable to have some sort of conniption or psychotic episode reminiscent of Linda Blair in âThe Exorcist.â Before I gripe, moan, and/or carp, Iâd like to thank the deities of Oklahoma weat
COLUMN: This and that: Labor Day Weekend edition (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Another Labor Day Weekend has come and gone. Big parade on Saturday and big gathering out by the Cherokee Nation complex that evening. I didnât attend any of the festivities because Iâm a grumpy old curmudgeon, plus it was too hot outside for me. I live on Jones Road, so I rarely get south of Downing Street in the afternoon on your average weekend, let alone on the Cherokee National Holiday weekend. Sorry, there are no recent results for popular commented articles.

Everyday was fraught with danger if y
COLUMN: Durn 'gubmint' (opens the original)

It is fairly obvious Iâm no fan of government â be it local, state, or federal. All three seem dead set on draining my bank account and wasting it on frivolous crap. It is also obvious Iâm an opinionated, crusty old coot who has the means to express my disdain for the government via this newspaper column. Iâm thankful I live in a country where I can publicly post how much the dang âgubmintâ irritates me and for having three levels of government to irritate me. Iâm glad Iâm irrita
COLUMN: Our oldest businesses (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The other day, I was down at Paceline Cyclery chewing the fat with the owner, Dave Rogers, and we got on the subject of how long Paceline has been in business and other long-time local businesses. Paceline has been around since 1987; Dave has owned it since 1991, and moved it to where it is now soon after buying it. We then got to yammering on about who has been in business in Tahlequah the longest. We agreed the business didnât have to still be owned by the original owner or still be at the s
