COMMENTARY: All hands on deck (opens the original)
Read excerpt
There was a time on Prince Edward Island when September and October meant more than the start of fall. It meant potato harvest, and when the crop was ready, everybody knew there was work to be done. For decades, Island schools actually closed during the potato harvest so students could help get the crop in. Families worked together, neighbours helped neighbours, and young people learned pretty quickly that potatoes didn’t get from a field to the kitchen table by themselves. I’m not suggesting we
COMMENTARY: I am a P.E.I. bootlegger (opens the original)
Read excerpt
My name is Tim Banks, and I am now officially a bootlegger. COMMENTARY: Is Prince Edward Island for sale? (opens the original)
Read excerpt
I’ve been asking a question lately that has generated more than a few raised eyebrows: “Is Prince Edward Island for sale?” Not literally, of course. No one is planting a giant “for sale” sign on the cliff by Confederation Bridge. But every year another familiar Island business quietly changes hands. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that. Owners retire, and families make difficult decisions. Remember Paderno? Superior Sanitation? Island Construction? Diagnostic Chemicals? Sold, sold, sold an
