CMS proposes to slash 340B payments to hospitals (opens the original)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is proposing to decrease payments to hospitals that purchase drugs under the 340B program to align the rate to reflect what providers pay for the medications. Currently, CMS reimburses qualifying hospitals at a rate of the Average Sales Price plus 6%. It proposes to change that rate to ASP minus 33.4%, making it close to a 40% decrease, according to the American Hospital Association.
