Mercury Music Picks: Geordie Greep Grips Rev Hall, Jane Remover’s Glitchy Electronic, and Abel Selacoe at the Oregon Symphony - Portland Mercury (opens the original)

I have finally arrived back in the Mercury office after a cool 19 days on the road. As glamorous as DIY tour life can be (sleeping on floors, squeezing into a car like a sardine, etc.) it is also incredibly fulfilling (I definitely teared up at every show thinking about how lucky I am to travel and play music with my best friends). All that to say, I’m happy to be back in Portland and am ready to spend this brisk pumpkin-flavored-everything-filled fall discovering new sounds. A big thanks to Hol
Sleater-Kinney Say It Like They Mean It - Portland Mercury (opens the original)

This is Sleater-Kinney’s world, and we’re just living in it. The Pacific Northwest rock darlings of zine-laden punk are not only legends of local lore, but also admirably unafraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves. Since the outfit’s 1994 outset in Olympia, Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein have been making fierce, unabashed, and in-your-face sounds that beg for progress. Now, three decades later, the times may have changed, but their social footprint remains, beckoning new generations of r
Mercury Music Picks: Sleater-Kinney, AMP Fest, and the Mighty Voice of Lido Pimienta - Portland Mercury (opens the original)

I’ve been keeping the picks short and sweet these weeks because admittedly, I bit off a bit more than I can chew! I just get so excited about new music that I want to write about it all! But alas, I am mortal and have a finite amount of time: I will soon be out and about traversing the Midwest on tour with my own band here, but I won’t leave you empty handed (the music picks abound!) So yes, picks will be in shorter supply until I return to full capacity at the start of October, but rest assured

Hello dear readers! It’s your starry-eyed music editor here back from a revitalizing week in Sou’Wester. (Did y’all see that eclipse?) For the uninitiated, Sou’Wester is an enchanting little getaway in Seaview, Washington, just across the bridge from Astoria. It serves as a resort of sorts, with an array of charmingly decked out vintage trailers. They often host live shows, ceramic workshops, and artist residencies—plus, it’s walking distance from the beach. I stayed in the Champion—a cute littl
Mercury Music Picks: Sounds at the Plaza, Black & Loud Fest, and a Juicy Blood Orange Listening Party - Portland Mercury (opens the original)

Hello music lovers and haters (hopefully not haters), this is your new music editor signing on to tell you what you already know: Portland is still popping off! I’m always in awe of the artists both based here and coming through. I feel like I need a time machine to catch everything because how am I supposed to be in three places at once when there’s Surgery Season at the Off Beat, a No Quiet Hours fundraiser at the Crystal, and Jun Iida Quartet all happening at the same time? I’ll admit, I don’
