According to the Financial Times, Goldman Sachs earned about $200 million in fees this year from Situational Awareness, the hedge fund founded by Leopold Aschenbrenner. The fund grew rapidly through leveraged bets on AI stocks, with assets peaking at around $30 billion. A sell-off in AI stocks in mid-July forced a major unwind, including a large sale to Citadel. Sharply higher rates across the U.S. yield curve helped to send markets lower on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq losing 1.15% and S&P 500 0.7%. Bitcoin was trading at $84,400 shortly after U.S. stocks closed, down 2.2% over the past 24 hours. Among crypto-related stocks, Strategy (MSTR) slid 3.1%, Coinbase (COIN) fell 1.5%, and Circle (CRCL) slipped 3%. Effective Monday, ProCap Financial (BRR) will join the Russell 2000, a key small-cap index. The stock will also be included in the Russell 3000. Originally launched amid the bitcoin treasury company mania of 2025, ProCap has changed its business model to agnetic finance. It will be rebranded as Silvia, with new ticker SVIA, effective Sept. 22. The company does continue to hold more than 5,000 bitcoin.
