Meet the people behind Antonelli's Deli | Richmond's new must-try sandwich shop (opens the original)
Read excerpt
RICHMOND, Va. — A partnership forged in the heat of a mobile wood-fired pizza oven has blossomed into one of Richmond’s newest sandwich shops. Antonelli's Deli, which opened in August in the city’s Museum District neighborhood, is the creation of Superstars Pizza owner Taylor Antonelli and baker Giustino Riccio. The collaboration began a few years ago when Antonelli, who also operates the FiftyOne Pizza truck, needed help for private events. He reached out to Riccio, a baker and musician he knew
Chef Ryan Diaz on Mañana at Cahoots, Michelin kitchens and Richmond food culture (opens the original)

RICHMOND, Va. — Ryan Diaz never planned on becoming a chef in Richmond. The Miami native joined the Air Force at 19, spent years stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, and trained in some of the country’s most respected kitchens before eventually landing in Virginia. Along the way, he worked for free at Sean Brock’s acclaimed McCrady’s, cooked in elite Los Angeles restaurants and helped open some of Richmond’s most talked-about dining concepts before stepping away to reconsider whether he even

RICHMOND, Va. — Before Chez Nous became one of Richmond’s most talked-about dining rooms, Melissa Stallard learned hospitality in a Hanover County country store where her father cut meat by hand behind the butcher counter. "That’s where food, the love of food, and the hospitality comes from," Stallard said during a recent appearance on the Eat It, Virginia podcast. Today, Stallard is the proprietor of Chez Nous, the intimate French-inspired wine bar and mercantile tucked into Monroe Ward near Th

Fallen shared the news on the CBS 6 food podcast "Eat It Virginia" with Scott and Robey. The new location will be just over 700 square feet, with eight bar stools, one four-top table, and potential outdoor seating. Fallen said he expects most orders to be takeout. "Hopefully, most of it'll be going out the door," he
Vintage Richmond news clip reconnects granddaughter with late John and Norman's restaurant owner (opens the original)
Read excerpt
RICHMOND, Va. — Digging through the WTVR CBS 6 video archives for some vintage Richmond clips, I came upon a 1997 morning news segment in which anchors Cheryl Miller and Scott Light tossed to reporter Chris O'Connell sitting at the beloved Richmond restaurant John and Norman's. John and Norman's served hungry Richmonders from the 1950s to 1999 at 2525 Hanover Avenue, in what is now Curbside Cafe. The restaurant was a Richmond institution, according to lifelong Richmond resident Charlie Diradour.
