Samuel Herman Gottscho was born on Feb. 8, 1875 in Brooklyn. He took up the hobby of photography in 1896. He also became a top salesman for Voss & Stern of Fifth Avenue, which imported lace and embroideries. He married Rosaline Elkan on April 7, 1910. Their only child, Doris, was born Jan. 3, 1915.
