A former soldier has been spared a prison sentence for smuggling 20 kilos of cannabis in his suitcase. Paul Barrett, 38, was caught with cannabis and a kilo of ketamine by customs officers at Newcastle Airport. Barrett shouted "get in there" in court and said "I won't let you down" to the judge. ChronicleLive reports Barrett had arrived at Newcastle Airport on a Jet2 flight from Faro around 2pm on May 4 this year. After collecting his suitcase from the carousel, he was stopped by customs.
