Almost two-in-five men under the age of 25 believe rape victims are partly responsible if they were taking drugs or drinking alcohol, according to new research from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC). Overall, 15 per cent of adults believe a person who is raped while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is at least partially responsible. Among men under 25 this rises to 37 per cent, and among women under 25 to 25 per cent.

Tusla housing vulnerable children in hotel rooms when no other accommodation is available poses “significant” safety risks, the Health Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa) has said. The State’s health services watchdog inspected the child and family agency’s national out-of-hours service earlier this year, finding that some children were still housed in hotel rooms because Tusla had “very limited access to emergency residential care placements”.
