SEIU 503 has officially authorized a vote to strike. Union sub-locals, including Portland State University’s SEIU 89, have submitted the mandatory 10 day strike notice to their respective universities. Two days after Labor Day, Portland State University’s subsection of the Service Employee International Union (SEIU), SEIU 89, held a rally demonstrating against what they view as unfair contract negotiations and benefit changes for Oregon universities’ classified workers. SEIU 503, the statewide SEIU chapter, has been in active contract negotiations with the heads of finance across Oregon’s seven public universities— including Andria Johnson, PSU’s Vice President for Finance and Administration.
