2026 Indiana State Fair Day Eight (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

This was my shortest visit this year - and maybe ever. The gates were closed earlier this morning because of the weather. I was thrilled to be invited to a lovely wedding this morning/afternoon so Aaron (my beau) dropped me off and I spent 45 minutes on the Fairgrounds before he picked me back up for my Red Key Tavern waitressing shift. I dodged some puddles on the way into the 42nd Street Gate and headed straight to Pioneer Village. I had a quick chat with my friend Karen, who is one of the wo

I had another long work day. I pulled into my driveway at 7:15 this evening, grabbed my Fair bag and hightailed it down the Monon Trail. It’s about a 25 minute walk from my backyard to the 42nd Street gate –I knew it would take me longer than that to drive and park. I walked through the gate with just 10 minutes to spare before 8:00. The gates are only open until 8:00 PM every day (except for Monday, of course). The Fairgrounds and Midway are open until 10:00 PM Sunday, Wednesday, and Thurs

2026 Indiana State Fair (Almost) Day Five (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

The Indiana State Fair closed for the rest of the day at 4:00 this afternoon. I was still downtown at work so there was no way I was going to keep my 15 year documented streak of attending the State Fair every day. After the heavy storms and a flash flood warning this afternoon, the sensible decision was made to close the Fairgrounds for the rest of the day to let the water settle and to assess any damage. I know that it technically doesn’t count since it wasn’t my fault that I wasn’t th

2026 Indiana State Fair Day Three (opens the original)

Excerpt · Positive tone · English

I had a perfectly lovely and laid-back Sunday evening at the State Fair I walked in the 42nd Street Gate (near the Monon Trail) into a big crowd waiting for the Josiah Queen concert. Josiah is a young (23 years old) Christian pop-singer-songwriter with a huge fan base. The newly refurbished music stage and seating area looks (and sounds great). All concerts are free with the price of Fair admission. I walked around the west edge of the Fairgrounds to the Dairy Bar for a Big Dill Grilled Cheese.

I baked a rhubarb pie this morning to enter in the State Fair Open Show. The top crust separated from the bottom crust - I didn't enter it. I need dough pinching lessons. At this point I only had two hours to spend on the Fairgrounds before I need to head to work for my Red Key Tavern waitressing shift. The Fair fates were smiling on me - Ron McCord was crossing 42nd Street on his golf cart and gave me a ride to Pioneer Village. Wooo hoo! And he asked if I wanted to ride in the parade in his ne
