Pestka: You need to leave your hometown in your 20’s if you want to grow (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

    Read excerpt

Most people that I see attend Iowa State are oftentimes from Iowa or the surrounding area, no longer than an hour or two’s drive away. I also see the same pattern happen back home in Phoenix, Arizona, where people who were born and raised there attend the local universities and end up staying in Phoenix. Within the last few months, Iowa State hosted two major concerts at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. This concept wasn’t something I fully understood in high school when I was looking at colleges, but looking back at it, I now completely understand why junior college has so many advantages and very few downsides. When I was looking at colleges out of high school, I wanted to go somewhere I
