Published 7:30 am Wednesday, August 5, 2026 I commend Blaze Edwards and Carl and Patty Simpson for their recent letters in the Mirror opposing the proposed city plan of taking out the Pinecrest Park in order to “put up a parking lot” (shades of Joni Mitchell). My wife and I moved to Campbell River in 2009. When I discovered the park a few blocks from our home, I rejoiced at having a beautiful field in which to walk and run. Ten years ago, Mark Carney, then Governor of the Bank of England and a climate defender, advised banks and other corporations not to invest further in fossil fuels – too risky in a time of transition to renewable energy. Then he becomes our prime minister and before long, appeases the populist, fossil-fuel- addicted UCP Alberta Government by agreeing to build yet another bitumen pipeline to the West Coast – at taxpayers’ expense no less.
