October begins but wet and windy fall storms stay away (opens the original)

WASHINGTON — After a stellar Wednesday, Iâve been describing Thursdayâs forecast as just a little bit of a âspeed bump.â Itâs really a pretty small one! Through the day, there could be a few passing sprinkles or very light showers mainly along areas nearest the Canadian border, though later in the afternoon and evening a few sprinkles may drift elsewhere. Still, this is a very minor weather change for most of Western Washington, with many communities staying dry. Highs will remain mild

The Little Giant Fire north of Leavenworth and west of Lake Chelan continues to burn, though smoke output has dropped considerably since mid-August. Moderate air quality is expected through Monday evening and into Tuesday around Chelan, while air quality remains good across most other areas. Weâll see warmer and drier weather through Wedn
Chances of rain to slowly pull parts of Washington out of severe drought (opens the original)
Read excerpt
While weâve endured one of the worst fire seasons in more than a decade across our state, the weather pattern changes occurring with the start of September are a good reminder that â eventually â weâll have more rainfall and snow to quench those fires. In fact, recent rains and cooler weather have helped firefighters with containment on some of the larger fires, like the Little Giant Fire north of Leavenworth. Still, all of eastern Washington is in significant drought status according to
