(WBRC) - Most Alabama families are struggling to cover at least one basic cost of living, and the burden reaches well into the middle class, according to the Family Economic Well-Being Index, compiled by Georgetown Law’s Center on Poverty and Inequality. The study measures the affordability pressure of housing, food, health care and child care across every income level, sorting families into four categories: comfortably meeting needs, getting by, burdened and severely burdened.
