The radio station Classic FM has a poll every year to find the nation’s favourite pieces of music, and does a countdown of the top 100. This year there was a new favourite: the top-rated piece was The Benedictus, part of the Armed Man Mass by Karl Jenkins. The poll has been running for 31 years, with popular and expected favourites appearing regularly, and this is the first time a work by a living composer has topped the list.
