The Forgotten World Highway: With a name like that how could we not drive this New Zealand treasure (opens the original)
Read excerpt
You can’t ignore a road that calls itself the “Forgotten World Highway.” I saw it on a map of New Zealand’s North Island while plotting a route from Auckland in the north to Wellington in the south. It was a squiggly line, and it pulled me in immediately. Jurassic Park. Indiana Jones. It had to be driven. The road doesn’t actually run between those cities. It doesn’t even go north-south, but instead cuts across the middle of the island for about 150 kilometres of twists and turns, over high sadd
Review: A daily driver in a tight spot: Touring Kiwi country in the Mazda CX-90 (opens the original)

I was warned Mazda’s largest SUV might be too big for the narrow roads here and it could be a squeeze in parking lots. New Zealanders have a more European attitude toward cars – they prefer smaller vehicles that handle well. So why drive the CX-90 during my visit? I have some experience with the mid-sized Mazda. I’ve driven the CX-70, which is essentially the same vehicle except for having only two rows of seats. I even spent some time in the CX-90 plug-in hybrid, which will improve your fuel co

There were 116 cars and one quadricycle parked on the links at Cobble Beach Golf Club last weekend for the annual Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This was the 12th year for the show near Owen Sound, Ont. that has become Canada’s premier automotive concours. Its entrants were considered by judges from all 10 provinces and 14 American states. The coveted Best In Show award was presented to an immaculate 1932 Rohr 8 Type F Streamliner owned by Ted and Mary Stahl of Chesterfield, Mich. The unique

It was made in Columbus, Ohio, and it’s serial number 78, and as far as I know, it’s the only one to exist. My father found it in Kingston, Ont. in 1957. I think he paid $400 for it in 1957 and it was pretty complete. As a little kid, I remember him driving it around the yard, just on the lawn. It worked right away and it still works. The upholstery’s been redone, of course, and paint over the years, but it’s the original electric motor and wiring in this car and it’s still in good shape. I’m gu
Review: Chrysler’s made-in-Canada 2027 Pacifica is the most practical vehicle you can buy – and now it costs less (opens the original)
Read excerpt
I’m just going to say it: There is no more practical vehicle for a family than a minivan, and nobody knows more about minivans than Chrysler. Here’s the proof: All minivans offer comfortable seating for adults across three rows, and close to 1,000 litres of cargo space behind that third one. Fold the rows flat and that luggage space will double and triple, but Chrysler goes a step further with its Stow ’n Go seating, storing both rows under the floor and turning its minivan into a cargo van with
