Avon offense, QB Trevor Sykora shines in big win over Berea-Midpark (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Those who follow Avon’s football team are witnessing the birth of a quarterback. For weeks coach Mike Elder has been extolling the virtues of first-year signal caller and junior Trevor Sykora. However, the results haven’t always matched the hype. Sykora is a rarity in the Avon program. The usual progression is to be the junior varsity quarterback as a sophomore, the back-up varsity quarterback as a junior and then the starter as a senior. But Sykora made the jump from JV starter to varsity start

Read excerpt
It was nearly a day to forget for the Mount Union football team and quarterback Mikey Maloney on Sept. 12 against visiting Grove City. Now it will be a day to remember, especially for Maloney. The Riverside graduate and two-time winner of the Fisher Award struggled through a five-interception day, but when it mattered most against Grove City, Maloney delivered in the clutch. Down, 17-14, and needing to go 70 yards in 45 seconds, Maloney drove the Purple Raiders to pay dirt with 12 seconds remain

Klimak carried 38 times for 152 yards and a touchdown, and caught seven passes for another 61 yards. That’s 45 touches for 213 yards for the 5-foot-9, 18

Read excerpt
In a perfect world, Luke Floriea would be on the Browns’ 53-player roster. A nice consolation would be trading that orange helmet for the silver one of the reigning Super Bowl champions. As it is, it remains to be seen how Floriea’s NFL journey might play out. On Sept. 3, ESPN NFL writer Jeremy Fowler tweeted the Mentor graduate secured a tryout with the world champion Seahawks. Free agent WR Luke Floriea, a camp favorite in Cleveland, has a tryout with the Seahawks this week, per source. — Jere
