Twenty five years ago, Robert Verhelst was one year into duty as a Madison firefighter. On Sept. 11, 2001, after finishing his shift, two hijacked commercial airplanes crashed into the twin towers. Verhelst got in his car and drove to New York City. By Sept. 12 he was at Ground Zero assisting with recovery and rescue efforts. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has released its latest batch of nationwide detention statistics that show Wisconsin arrests by ICE agents hit new highs in June and July. The number of arrests jumped from at least 119 in May to 220 in June and were concentrated in the southeastern portion of the state. The Northwoods Forest History Experience in Manitowish Waters is built to tell the long history of the northwoods, but simultaneously create an interactive experience.
