Crazy cat lady trained by Noodle and babies (opens the original)

There are times when I wish that I had all of Noodle’s babies. Four pure white babies and big chubby Noodle. All running around the house. Wouldn’t that be wild? For now I have Noodle and her baby Claire and young black and white Honey. Early each morning the three of them run around the house, over my stomach and up onto the bed headboard to the window sill. Often Honey will stand on my stomach and then jump up onto the window sill. Oof! Noodle often sits on the arm of my chair and purrs me to

Byard: I would have to be totally knocked out for that (opens the original)

I have never wanted a tattoo. Ever. When my granddaughter got a tattoo I said to her, “Haven’t I taught you better?” Both my grandchildren and my daughter have tattoos. How did that happen? There’s been times when I’ve wondered what I’d put on my skin and where I’d put it, but I could never decide. I’ve thought of putting my dog Toby’s name somewhere, but then what about putting my cat Sox’s name or my brother’s name or how about Mom? I had a henna tattoo that covered my hand for a wedding once.

Byard: Who messes with the big dog? (opens the original)

Excerpt · Neutral tone · English

Each time I see a Rhodesian Ridgeback I want to adopt one. I just loved my own Toby, a 107-pound boy. The litter of puppies was a bundle of joy, wiggling around for more love. It took quite a while before I decided on a little boy. Then I saw the mother and she had a small head and big body (probably because she’d just had a litter). So I put down the puppy I had decided on and chose another with perfect composition. That puppy turned out to be Toby. Don’t ask how he got that name. I find it dif

Getting old: I think I’ve been tricked (opens the original)

Excerpt · Positive tone · English

    Read excerpt

When I was in high school my mom had a woman come over maybe twice a month to clean the house. I’ve looked for her for years to no success. She was great. She knew the piano like it was part of her and I would often interrupt her cleaning and ask her to play for me. Sarah’s long brown fingers would fly across the keys and all without looking at any sheet music. I actually don’t know if she could read music but she sure could play it. Sarah’s young son could also play by ear as did her husband. I

A pregnant cat and a pink suitcase (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

    Read excerpt

While scrolling through the news on my phone, I saw an ad about suitcases and remembered how I picked my famous pink suitcase. I was getting ready to leave my Sri Lanka, my home of 14 years. I was conflicted; wanted to go home to be close to my three great grandsons, yet wanted to stay in Sri Lanka and continue photographing weddings. Needing a suitcase, my friend and photo partner, Lipton, and I went shopping for one. We found a place in an outdoor market that was selling them. It’s a thing in
