New citizens take the oath during a naturalization ceremony at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth on Saturday. Tony Violantiâs father, Luigi, immigrated to the United States from Italy as a naturalized World War I soldier after fighting for the allies. âIf it wasnât for that, I wouldnât be here today,â the 81-year-old Londonderry resident said.
