Living in Kilauea, Kauai: A North Shore Beach Town (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

    Read excerpt

When buyers tell me they want the North Shore, Kilauea, Kauaʻi is rarely the first town they name. They picture Hanalei Bay. But Kilauea sits just east of it, with the same coastline and a town of its own. Hanalei and Princeville get the postcards. Kilauea offers the same North Shore beaches and climate with a character all its own. There is a small, walkable town center with no chain stores. The community lives here year-round, with events at the heart of town. And the homes range from in-town

Retiring to Kauaʻi: Buying Property Before You Retire (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

    Read excerpt

Retiring to Kauaʻi starts with a candid conversation about prices. The island-wide median for a single-family home was $1.2 million in 2025. For a full breakdown of current conditions, see Is Now a Good Time to Buy a Home on Kauaʻi? By area, the spread is significant. The South Shore (Poʻipū/Kōloa) median came in

Wailua Homesteads Kauai Neighborhood Guide | East Side Living (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

    Read excerpt

One of the neighborhoods I find myself describing most often to East Side buyers is Wailua Homesteads. It sits mauka (mountain) of Kapaʻa, and once buyers drive into it, it tends to click quickly. The road climbs past ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls. The air cools, the valley views open up, and the place feels different from the beach communities on the coast. The town of Kapaʻa is ten minutes back down the hill. That combination is elevation, access, and a residential texture removed from the visitor corridor.
