Breaking Down the J.J. McCarthy Trade and the Win in Tampa - Vikings Territory (opens the original)
Read excerpt
As the Vikings celebrated their 3-0 start after a tough road win in Tampa with great defense and special teams play but offensive difficulties, the somewhat surprising news broke on Monday of J.J. McCarthy being traded to the New York Giants. There’s a lot to unpack in Vikings Land early this week. I don’t think it was wise to make this trade after three games this season unless there are big upgrades if McCarthy starts and has success (such as a second round pick if he becomes the Giants starte
Beware the Vikings Trap Game-Keys to Beating the Bucs to Reach 3-0 and Around the NFL in Week 3 - Vikings Territory (opens the original)

As the Vikings prepare to head to the heat in Tampa for Sunday’s matchup with the winless Buccaneers, Kevin O’Connell is surely sounding the alarm to his team about not overlooking the Bucs. “Another road game, another very significant challenge,” O’Connell said. “It’s not lost on us the type of team Todd (Bowles) has, the leadership on that team, all the respect in the world for Baker (Mayfield). We know we’re going to get the best version of the Bucs.” The Vikings have to beware of a letdown a
Keys to Vikings Knocking Off High-Flying Bears on Sunday - Vikings Territory (opens the original)

As the Kyler Murray concussion watch continues and Carson Wentz prepares for a possible 100th NFL start Sunday in Chicago, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is scheming up ways to disrupt the high-flying Bears offense coming off their 59 point, 552-yard explosion in their opening win at Carolina. It’s a battle of 1-0 teams who split their series last season with each team winning memorable come-from-behind games on the road. In his first NFL start, J.J. McCarthy led a late rally for a t
An Amazing Vikings Turnaround in a Memorable Opening Win Over the Packers - Vikings Territory (opens the original)

I predicted a double digit win for the Vikings in their opener against the Packers. I know from experience that games rarely go as planned but I certainly didn’t envision the wild swings of momentum that resulted in the turnaround from a 22-10 seemingly hopeless third quarter deficit to a 39-22 Purple victory in which the Vikings scored the final 29 points and outscored the Packers 22-0 in the fourth quarter. Here are my reactions: to a crazy, highly entertaining opening victory that was extra i
Keys to a Vikings Opening Win Over the Packers and Thoughts on the Wentz vs. McCarthy Decision - Vikings Territory (opens the original)

Opening day in the regular season always has been one of my favorite days on the NFL calendar. Done (thankfully) are the offseason program, training camp, and boring preseason games. Now the games count and there’s no bigger opener for the Vikings and their fans than facing the arch-rival Packers at home in an important divisional matchup as the nationally televised doubleheader game on Sunday at 3:25 pm. In my team exec years, the opener was nerve-racking, especially if it was a division game.
