Editorial: The Crawl To The Finish Line (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Last Wednesday, I was on the phone with my best friend, Grace. For avid Critic nerds, Grace was the main creator of the For The Girls game included in the centrefold of the Party Issue. Nowadays, I’m sad to say that we don’t find nearly enough time to talk with busy schedules and very different postcodes. But we do have pretty relatable lines of work that mean we interact with a lot of students, so when we do catch up, it's a very easy conversation. I had been especially bad at talking to Grace
A Chat With (And Celebration Of) Otago’s Y25 Changemakers (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Now in its seventh year, twenty-five changemakers gathered at a launch gala in Tāmaki Makaurau on the 21st of August. Read excerpt
According to a statement provided to Critic Te Ārohi from President Daniel Leamy, the Otago University Students’ Association (OUSA) plans to trespass Dunedin Councillor Benedict Ong from “all OUSA premises” following reports from students alleging “inappropriate and unwanted behaviours.” Guess he won’t be getting his $5 lunch anytime soon. In a letter sent to Vice-Chancellor Grant Robertson on the 1st of September, OUSA urged the University to trespass Ong as well. “OUSA takes student wellbeing
OUSA Confirms University Bookshop Under New Ownership (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The Otago University Students’ Association has announced that the University Bookshop (UBS) has been sold to John Brenssell, with plans for the bookshop to continue operating as an independent bookstore, under the University Bookshop brand, preserving its long-standing heritage in Dunedin's literary community. The new owner will take over at close of business today. “Mr Brenssell is a well-known figure in the local bookselling industry and currently owns Paper Plus in the Golden Centre, bringing
