My own WI – Tharston & District – celebrates its 60th birthday this year and a great party night was enjoyed by 50 members with good food, good friends and lots of reminiscing about the Swinging 60s. I bought my first house in the 60s for the princely sum of £3,000, much to the concern of my parents who had visions of me locked up in some squalid debtors’ prison, unable to pay my £13.11s mortgage. I was so grateful for the second-hand items of furniture given to me by friends and family members.
