Sometimes good ideas eventually go bad. Back in the 1930s and 1940s there were no year-round geese in Western New York. The only geese we had were the Canadian geese migrating through in the fall and a few private captive flocks. Then the great idea came up to catch some of the migrating geese in the spring and clip their wing feathers so they had to remain here during the summer. This is the time of the year when monarch butterflies attack our flowers for the nectar they provide. This helps pollinate our flowers and also helps the butterfly on its migration south. I always get excited about photographing these guys as they are a beauty to behold and a challenge to capture with the camera with their erratic flights. First I want to thank all those who contacted me about the absence of this column. There were some health issues along with a few other problems but hopefully those are all in the past. During the period of disappearance of this column, my addiction to nature photography continued, with Mother Nature giving me many great opportunities. The most recent was the discovery of three almost full-grown red fox kits that were still hanging out together. Most of my photographing of these young creatures
