    On the same day that the Lodi Sentinel reported the first Lodi soldier to die in World War I, the paper reported on locals’ disgust with hamburger steak. Not the actual dish, mind you, but the name, and it’s origin in the city of Hamburg. “The name hamburger was a trifle to (sic) German for Lodi folk,” the Sentinel wrote in the Saturday, June 8, 1918 edition. “And that’s why it was changed.” The new name for the dish?
