Vancouver Canucks lines vs. Edmonton Oilers (Oct. 1, 2026) | Daily Hive | Offside (opens the original)

Home ice was not good to the Vancouver Canucks last season. The Canucks had a league-worst 9-27-5 record on home ice in the 2025-26 season — five fewer wins than the next-worst team. They didn’t give the fans at Rogers Arena many reasons to cheer. They’re looking to change that this season, starting with their home opener on Thursday night, and the Canucks are excited to show their fans that things will be different. “The excitement of being back in front of our home crowd for the home opener is

The odds are stacked against the Vancouver Canucks this season, with pretty much the entire world predicting they’ll finish in last place. But there’s no reason they can’t be enjoyable to watch on their way to the basement. That was one of the issues with the past couple of seasons. Yes, the Canucks lost a lot of games, but they were also miserable to watch the entire time they were losing. If Tuesday’s season opener against the Edmonton Oilers was any indication, the Canucks under new head coac

Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, has a population of about 35,000. Vancouver has a population of about 775,000. According to Henrik Sedin, Örnsköldsvik has the same number of ice rinks as Vancouver. “I’m just comparing to when I grew up in a town of 35,000 people, we had six or seven ice rinks,” said Henrik on the Halford & Brough show. “You could find ice times whenever you needed. And I see that Vancouver has the same amount of ice rinks for this amount of people — it is a problem, for sure.” With that i

The Vancouver Canucks kick off the 2026-27 season on Tuesday night, and excitement is at an all-time middle. While fans are largely happy that the Canucks are rebuilding with a clear direction under new management, both the team and the fans have to face the reality of another probable last-place season where they’re unlikely to win many of the 84 games they’ll play. That’s a good thing from a long-term perspective. The Canucks badly need another top-tier prospect to add to the likes of Caleb Ma
Malhotra wants less defence from the Canucks this season | Daily Hive | Offside (opens the original)

Last season, the Vancouver Canucks were the most permissive team in the NHL. Their 314 goals against was the most allowed by a Canucks team in 35 years, and the most allowed by any NHL team in the past two seasons. It was an all-situations disaster, too. The Canucks allowed the most goals against at even-strength and on the penalty kill, with their 71.5 per cent penalty kill percentage landing in the bottom ten in NHL history. The defensive performance of the 2025-26 Canucks was startlingly bad.
