WEST SEATTLE SMOKE: It's back (opens the original)
Read excerpt
8:32 PM: Thanks to Carol Ann Joyce for the photo of tonight’s smoke-red setting sun. We didn’t realize the smoke was returning until a yellow tinge took over the mid-afternoon light, and now suddenly, smoky murk. (We know everybody has a personal preference for maps and other tools to track all this; if you don’t, here’s a map showing the fires around the region.) 10:38 PM: Two photos to add – first, from David Hutchinson:
BIZNOTE: Outdoor Research takes first steps with West Seattle headquarters (opens the original)
Read excerpt
By Anne Higuera Reporting for West Seattle Blog Something is afoot on the second floor of the commercial building across the street from Don Armeni Boat Ramp that is known as Denali. A reader asked what is going on. We’ve been trying to get the full details for more than a month, but the short answer is that the space at 1315 Harbor Ave SW is apparently the new headquarters of Outdoor Research, the outdoor apparel and equipment company that had its headquarters and retail store on 1st Avenue Sou
FOLLOWUP: Inside fire-ravaged Camp Long Lodge, city and state officials learn what's happening, and not happening, with it (opens the original)

Seattle Parks deputy superintendent Andy Sheffer led the tour and provided the updates to Councilmember S

Read excerpt
At the corner of California/Oregon in The Junction, muralist Bob Henry has started work on the next West Seattle mural restoration. This time it’s “Bank Day,” on the north-facing side of the Chase building (which, by the way, has been a bank since its 1952 dedication as a Washington Mutual branch). Henry tells WSB he’ll be working on this one for “four or five” days, and it’s weather-dependent, so that might stretch out a while. The mural was painted by Alan Wylie, one of 11 murals created ~30 y
FOLLOWUP: Spokane Pump Station testing concluded (opens the original)
Read excerpt
As part of the almost-complete Spokane Pump Station project in east Admiral, Seattle Public Utilities had sent an alert that they’d be running a high volume of water through the system yesterday and today. Readers wondered how they’d know it was definitely done and the risk of brown water was likely past (we had a few reports yesterdy and last night, though none so far today). We’ve just received word from SPU that the testing is done.
