OROVILLE, Calif. — Butte County firefighters and aircraft contained the Railroad Fire, a vegetation fire Sept. 28 that burned about 4 acres in Oroville. Cal Fire reported at 3:39 p.m. that crews responded near Railroad and Messina avenues. Engines, hand crews, dozers and aircraft stopped the fire’s forward progress in about 20 minutes. Firefighters remained at the scene to strengthen containment lines and mop up the fire’s interior. The cause of the fire had not been released.
