GALLERY | Rare albino cardinal rescued in Pennsylvania after second bird dies of infection (opens the original)
Read excerpt
LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A rare albino cardinal is turning heads in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, after wildlife rehabilitators took in two of the unusual birds over the summer. Albino cardinals are extremely rare. While most cardinals are known for their striking red plumage, the albino mutation removes all or most of that color. The Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County took in two albino cardinals over the summer, but one of them died after developing a severe ear infection.
