You’re Unique, Just Like Everybody Else! As sometimes happens with me, I got “thought provoked” at church on Sunday. Sometimes this is a good thing and sometimes not. I think this was a good thing. We were out of town – out of Sanpete. We were in Pang’ Town (otherwise known as Panguitch). We spent the weekend there inasmuch as our granddaughter had a high school mountain bike race competition in that area. She rode well, even though she wasn’t feeling all that great. The race course was out towa

    Good Fortune (opens the original)

On the Labor Day holiday, a couple of weeks ago, I had the good fortune of taking a day trip to Capitol Reef National Park. We decided the night before that we wanted to hit the road for a little change of scenery. So, I arose at the crack of 8:30am and we roared away from home at 9:30am. Nothing like an “early start” I say. I don’t know what time my travel mate got up, but I do know she was up in time to make our picnic lunch. That included one of my trailside favorites – tuna fish sandwiches.

Lots of Fun (opens the original)

A month ago, on August 16th, we drove home to Sanpete from Leadville, Colorado. We had been at the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike “Race Across the Sky.” They call it that because of the high elevation of the 104 mile course of the race. We had a son, a daughter, and a granddaughter in the race. Leadville, nicknamed “Cloud City” – and also “Two Mile High City” – is situated at 10,158 feet above sea level. The race goes up and down, but reaches elevations of close to 12,600 feet. (Utah’s highest moun

Let’s Go Places! (opens the original)

Excerpt · Neutral tone · English

Toyota’s current slogan for advertising and promoting their vehicles is “Let’s Go Places.” It’s the tag line they use at the end of many of their commercials on TV. I like it. They’ve been using it for a long time – since 2012. Before that, starting in 2004, they were using the slogan: “Moving Forward.” But what if I want to go backwards? I do a lot of backing up. I wouldn’t want them to neglect the reverse gear. For one thing, I’m not that great at parking. I need the reverse for adjustments. (

August: Where’s the Holiday? (opens the original)

    Excerpt · English

    Read excerpt

Here we are deep into the month of August. As I look at the calendar, it occurs to me once again that there are no holidays in August. That always strikes me as quite odd. I know that there are some months which have no legal holidays. But those months, March, for example, have at least a day like St. Patrick’s Day to spice things up a little bit. I think we need a holiday in August. The two “analog calendars” (paper and ink) near me as I write this (one hanging on my wall and one on my desk) sh
