Editor's note: This is the final installment of the bimonthly Baby Boomer Memories column, which Jim Shulman began writing for The Eagle in 2015. An estimated 79 million baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. The youngest baby boomers turn 62 this year, only three years from Medicare eligibility. The oldest baby boomers turn 80 by the end of this year. I am already one of the octogenarians. In this article I would like to impart some advice to my younger friends as they experience the wor

I was a junior at Pittsfield High School in 1961, the year of Pittsfieldâs bicentennial. The city was incorporated 200 years earlier in 1761 when its population reached 200. To celebrate the milestone anniversary, Mayor Raymond Haughey appointed a committee to organize year-long events. On Sunday, the restaurantâs ownership released a statement saying that this will its final month in business. Af

I look forward to seeing all the changes later this year on a trip to Pittsfield from my home in Ohio. I have been following articles online and in the newspaper about the exciting changes in the museum both in the layout and its exhibits. They appear to be a balance of old and new and in line with founder and papermaker Zenas Craneâs vision back in 1903.
As Berkshire dairy farms vanish, one Pittsfield creamery nears its 100th year (opens the original)

When I was a 14-year-old, I read a book titled, âCircus Doctorâ which was an autobiography of Dr. J. Y. Henderson, the veterinarian for the Ringling Brothers Circus. I always loved working with animals as I grew up with a lot of pets, and as a kid I cared for animals at the Pleasant Valley Sanctuary nature camp. But this book hooked me and I wanted to be a veterinarian and, if possible, work in a zoo. Senior year of high school in 1962, I got accepted in the pre-vet program at Cornell Univer
