EMPTY NEST (opens the original)
Read excerpt
My Empty Nest column is in 50 some newspapers, give or take, in three states. The reason I say "give or take" is because I’m not sure what all newspapers carry my column. I’m often surprised when someone calls and says they read my column in Yayhoo, Iowa. I had no idea I was in Yayhoo, Iowa. The way publishers spread my column around is sort of a mystery. Maybe because it’s free. Ya think? The reason "Syndicated" is in quotation marks, is because, since I write for free, is it technically syndic

It took me awhile to figure out that the handle has left hand threads. Well, duh! Her toilet seemed to be flushing fine with the new handle. We were reading on a Friday night when Ginnie heard my toilet gurgling. She went in, jiggled the handle and sat back down. Then she heard something in her bathroom, and went to investigate.
Bed Pan Comes Out, Book Opens (opens the original)

I’ll take and tell you, if there’s something beneficial about being incapacitated, in addition to the handicap sticker, it’s that it’s given me more time to read. The bedpan comes out, book opens. I couldn’t help but notice the Barbara Kingsolver book Ginnie was reading, "Demon Copperhead." I had never read any Kingsolver books. Dunno why. She has all the credentials: Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, New York Times Best Seller List, etc. Ginnie is a paper-book reader, leaving her books scatt
