Tracking hot temperatures and tropical moisture (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Hot weather is set to continue, at least in the short term. Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday. Over the next few days Valley and KRV highs will be near 100°, with 90s in the mountains and highs up to 110° in the desert. The heat isn't all we're tracking, though. Our first change comes Thursday, as a push of moisture from Tropical Storm Iselle moves in California. This will bring an increase of cloud cover, and maybe even a few raindrops here and there.

Triple digits are back in the forecast for much of Kern County. By Wednesday high temperatures in the triple digits are possible in the Desert, Valley, and even the KRV. Temperatures will likely climb a few degrees on Thursday, before starting to fall. Even as temperatures fall later this week and into the weekend, it's not looking like they'll fall very far. Valley and KRV highs will still be in the upper 90s, with upper 80s in the mountains. Desert areas will still remain in the triple digits.

We're warming back up after a short stretch of cooler-than-average weather. Prior to Monday, Bakersfield had 5 days in a row at or below 95°, with 90° on Friday being the coolest day. Thankfully, it's looking like Tuesday will likely stay below the century mark, thanks in part to some upper level cloud cover moving in. By Wednesday the high will be right around 100°, with a high slightly over 100° likely by Thursday. The re

After 15 consecutive days at or above 100°, Bakersfield was back in the double digits on Thursday with a high of 95°. Temperatures will stay well below 100° for the next several days, with Friday looking like the coolest day for most of Kern. The forecast for Bakersfield on Friday is 91°, with some Valley spots likely staying in the upper 80s. Highs will be near 90° in the KRV, and right around 80° for most of our mountain towns. Temperatures look to warm up gradually through the next seven days
A break from triple digit heat (opens the original)

It looks like Bakersfield just barely hit 100° on Wednesday, in a single 5-minute reading at 5:10 PM. If that's verified, it will extend our heatwave to 15 days. The forecast high in Bakersfield on Thursday is only 94°. Mountain towns will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s, and the KRV will be in the lower 90s. Temperatures will remain cooler than average through the weekend, with some models suggesting the cooldown could hold through most of next week, too. Something else we're watching closely
