A man serving a 27-year sentence when he was charged in the February slaying of a Morgan County corrections officer was found dead this week at a maximum security prison in Nashville. Two people have been arrested on murder charges in connection with the July 13 drowning death of a 7-year-old child in a private Bradley County pond. Jean Marie Kell, 68, and Dennis Ray Page, 40, both of Old Fort, Tennessee, were each charged on original indictments with felony murder and aggravated child abuse and neglect, jail and court records show. The arrests stem from an investigation by Bradley County Sheriff's Office detectives.

Chattanooga has gone 45 days hitting highs of 90 degrees or more, setting a 147-year record Thursday, and forecasters say the heat won't relent until next week. "In terms of 1879 to the present day, when we look at the number of consecutive days for the max temperature was at least 90, 45 days in 2026 is the longest stretch in Chattanooga," National Weather Service meteorologist Nathan Wellington said Thursday by phone. "The second longest stretch was 38 days in 1993."
