On Saturday, July 11, 2026, US Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina died of an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease following a “sudden illness”, according to preliminary findings released by Sen Graham’s office.1 Acute aortic dissection is a rare condition caused by the tearing of the aortic wall and is a life-threatening medical emergency. There are 5 to 30 cases per 1 million people per year in the US, accounting for 3 of every 1000 emergency department visits
