Cubs pitching still manages to lose them the game despite getting to the Cy Young favorite early (opens the original)
Read excerpt
National League Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start all season prior to Wednesday night, where the Chicago Cubs were able to get five runs off of him in only four innings. With this offensive showing you might think that the Cubs were able to come away with the win, but in what's been the case far too often, Chicago's pitching never really gave them a chance to win this game. After two innings, the Cubs had a 5-3 lead off the back of Alex Bre
Cubs' full potential on display in 17-3 blowout of Brewers (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The Chicago Cubs entered Monday night 8 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central, and only 4.5 games ahead in the wild card standings. In what felt like almost a must win game, the Cubs came out firing on all cylinders, with effectively everyone who played in the game having an impact. That is reflected in the 17 runs scored, but more importantly in the Brewers scoring only 3 of their own. Clay Holmes was once again magnificent, allowing 0 runs and striking out 8 Milwaukee batters in
Bears official 53-man roster announcement shows how much confidence Ben Johnson has in his young receivers. (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The Chicago Bears made their official 53-man roster announcement late Sunday afternoon and as always, there were several noteworthy decisions made. Chicago decided to keep rookie undrafted free agent Hayden Large, meaning the Bears will carry four tight ends and Ben Johnson will continue to run a tight end heavy offense. The main takeaway from this isn't that the Bears kept Large on the roster, but rather that Ben Johnson felt comfortable enough with the five receivers he has in the room to not
Cubs minor leaguer BJ Murray Jr. expected to be called up ahead of September roster expansion (opens the original)
Read excerpt
With rosters expanding from 26 to 28 on September 1st, all eyes are on what the Cubs will do with their rotation and bullpen, and rightfully so, as that's been the area of concern essentially all year. It's almost inevitable that Javier Assad will be the pitcher added to the roster, as he should have never left it to begin with. Alongside Assad, BJ Murray Jr is expected to receive the call up to the MLB, as the BBA revealed that Murray is expected to be the next Bahamian to make the MLB. Murray
Javier Assad has no business being in Iowa amidst Cubs fight for the playoffs (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Javier Assad has been one of the Cubs most reliable arms throughout most of the regular season, both coming out of the bullpen and starting games in a pinch. Especially through July and April, Assad had been arguably a top 3 pitcher on the team. Daniel Palencia's return from the IL on August 21 meant someone had to be optioned or DFA'd. The Cubs choosing Assad to be that guy just feels incredibly disrespectful to Assad and Cubs fans alike. The logic behind optioning Assad is somewhat reasonable.
