Caliche volleyball enjoys a long winning streak (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Success and setback are natural attributes to any athletic team, and Caliche volleyball has experienced both ends of that spectrum since the start of September. Over a 11-day period, from Sept. 5 to Sept. 15, the Buffaloes defeated Fleming 3-0, Class 1A’s No. 12 Haxtun 3-1, Weldon Valley 3-0 and Class 2A’s No. 5 Akron 3-1, earning the No. 9 ranking in Class 1A themselves. The Buffaloes fell 3-1 and 3-0 in the two matches that followed against 1A’s No. 7 Prairie and 2A’s No. 21 Yuma. “Caliche vol
Merino volleyball bounces back from a couple of losses (opens the original)
Read excerpt
As the high school volleyball season nears its midway point, Merino has seen both success and setback. The way the Rams have responded to their two losses may define them more than the losses themselves. At the beginning of September, they suffered their first defeat at the hands of Class 2A’s top-ranked Wiggins, winning only one game en route to the 3-1 outcome. Four days later, they fell 3-0 to a 1A No. 1 Simla that’s taking no prisoners this season. “Wiggins and Simla are both exceptional tea
Fleming cross country racing through the fall season (opens the original)

As the fall continues its trudge toward the eventual state cross country meet, Fleming’s boys and girls cross country teams are enjoying plenty of good marks to make them smile. The Wildcats shined at Fort Morgan Mustang Invitational at the beginning of the month, where teams large and small competed at the Riverside Park XC Course. Senior Jinjer Stroyek was the first to cross the finish line for the Wildcats, and she did so in 22 minutes, 52.20 seconds flat. That was good enough to earn her six
Peetz volleyball picks up its first win of the season (opens the original)
Read excerpt
In the five years leading up to last season’s 7-15 berth, wins were hard to come by for Peetz volleyball. The Bulldogs won a total of six matches between 2020 and 2024, but a long buildup of court camaraderie had them singing a different tune in 2025. And they only lost one varsity starter from last year’s squad. “The team has played together for a few years now, so they’re used to playing with each other,” head coach Becky Leach said. “Now we just have to build on that.” After that taste of suc
Merino volleyball taking on new look with new head coach, new classification (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Since the dawn of the COVID era, Merino volleyball has been a formidable force in the Class 1A scene. Dating back to 2020, the Rams won four straight state championships, and then enjoyed a state runner-up finish against McClave in 2024. Last year, they reached all the way into the 1A state semifinals, only to fall to nearby foe Fleming. The third-seeded Wildcats went on to win the whole thing. That Merino team of 2025 enjoyed strong senior leadership, but had plenty of talent to go around. Jayl
