I’m living on an island this month. There’s no electricity or mains water, but I do have a small petrol-fuelled generator when I need to recharge the lamps and my phone, possibly plug in a power tool (hardly ever). The 4G signal is pretty patchy this year, so comms are irregular both to receive and send, which suits me FINE. I can always revert to my mother’s trusted mode: if there was trouble and we needed rescuing, she told her friend on the mainland to look out for a white sheet on the gatepo
