You're Invited Oct 4th for Our Book's 1st Birthday Party (opens the original)
Read excerpt
We began our Substack, Writing Together with Penny and Darcy, about a year ago and in that time we’ve posted fifty-one weekly prompts and writings. Before that we’d been writing at least weekly, and sometimes more often as we prepared the book, since January 2024. Whew! That’s a lot of writing! We have loved this process. To our amazement, it has become a central part of our lives. We hope that our prompts have been a catalyst for your own stories and writing. We find ourselves at a natural pause

Read excerpt
This week David Whyte started a sentence (in his last online session of, “Letting Go,” - Three Sundays in July) with, “The inevitable loss of being close…'“ This lodged in us and we both felt drawn to explore more deeply the struggle buried in that painful universal truth - love and it’s inevitable loss. The prompt we created was: A time when the gift of closeness outweighed the certainty of loss? We wrote for 15 minutes. <a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com
When Has Your Heart Been A Wayfinder? (opens the original)
Read excerpt
This week, we were taken by Mark Nepo’s evocative poem, “If You Find Me”, a reflection on how he listens to his mind, heart and body in daily living. The poem resonated for its simplicity and depth. We were particularly compelled by the lines, “When I listen to my heart,/I’m like a whale gliding/beneath the surface.” As often happens, Mark’s images were the catalyst for our own writing. We created the prompt: “When has your heart been a wayfinder?” We wrote for 15 minutes. <a class="image-link i
