Hi, friends — It’s September 1st! Say “rabbit, rabbit” and get the good luck, please. I hope everyone had a chance to pause and look out the window and daydream. I still love looking at this tiny tree in the rocks, growing slowly as everything moves around it. Of course all things are complicated and relational: the cabbage white butterflies are invasive devourers; the fox chases the cottontail; and the trees are second-growth and scrubby; but here we are in a vision, for a moment, peace. — Amy

Dear friends — It’s the first of August! Say “rabbit, rabbit” and get the good luck. At least we can appeal to the rabbit gods to smooth our strange trek through time. I am always wistful in August, the esteemed eighth month, round and sunny, with spiders and mushrooms creeping in, spinning webs and fruiting bodies. There are ghost pipes under the trees and empty nests in the eaves. We are no longer fresh as daisies but more complex and true. As always, please share your small stories of animal
