Piggly Wiggly’s closing leaving hole to fill (opens the original)
Read excerpt
This past week Piggly Wiggly closed its doors for good. I stopped by and talked with Clayton and Trudie the other day. Most of the inside shelving has been torn down and it really looked totally different. They said they were loading up the metal and hauling it to Waycross and selling it for scrap. Bonnie and I worked there in the early 1980s when it was the Nahunta IGA. It was really sad to see it close down like this. I also had a pool hall at the redlight across from Arthur’s liquor store at

A few weeks ago, I received an email saying my picture hanging in the Governor’s office in Atlanta had to picked up by Tuesday, August 25. It was the picture which won the Georgia Council for the Arts Contest i n 2026. M y photos were usually displayed until the end of the year. I looked at what was going on and he had it torn down with very few tools to work with. I told him it would be easier to change the whole rearend than it would be to try t

I have had a lot of people wanting me to do another printing of the Okefenokee Swamp - Wild & Natural Coffeetable book. The first two editions have sold out and now with the Okefenokee swamp being named a UNE SCO World Heritage Site, the need may really be there for another book . This massive swamp is the 27th UNESCO site in the nation and the first one in the state of Georgia and the second one in the state of Florida - joining the Everglades.
Jones will be missed by many in Brantley Co. (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Just a couple of weeks ago, Jana, Ben Jones’s daughter, sent me an email telling me she was having her dad moved from BayView Nursing Home to Jacksonville where he would be closer to the family. I heard he rea lly didn’t like the idea, but he was 100 years old and his health had started to be in decline for a little while. I know I have known him for many years and he would always say, “How are you doing pardner?” Then he would shake my hand and that hand shake was something that I could never f
