England in Microcosm (opens the original)

Here is a Guardian article from 24 September 2026 on dumping chemicals onto farmland and the resulting stream devastation. As everyone knows, I hate the Guardian because they are so phony and hypocritical. But everyone also knows I read stories from my rightwing whacko enemies too. Know your enemies, blah, blah, blah. Here is the article and a couple of quotes: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/sep/24/furnace-book-east-sussex-fishing-lakeThe story of Furnace Brook could be Britain in m
Soybean Seed (opens the original)
Read excerpt
A couple of days ago, I harvested my dry (mature) soybeans for seed. I grow two edamame varieties together and double plant them, as I don’t see the difference in yield and this provides a buffer on poor seed quality and preservation. (I do the best I can but I also try to buffer against possible future mistakes.) I make plenty of edamame and freeze some of them for a treat in January. Blows Against the Empire (opens the original)

Leveraging Insights with Joel Salatin (opens the original)
Read excerpt
To be right upfront about all this, I am not a fan of Joel Salatin. He is just too big and too focused on animals for someone who was a vegetarian from 1970-1981 and STILL eats meat only occasionally. However, his business decisions in farming have proven themselves over the decades. Here is a video I listened to recently, with Joel on the David Lin show. David is a business analyst and podcaster who I regularly listen to because of the quality of his guests and the perspicuity of his questions.
Controlling the Narrative - Part II (opens the original)
Read excerpt
My last article was on controlling the narrative. Now I want to get into “some” of the mechanics of writing to control the narrative. The nuts-and-bolts as it were. But first a bit of observation and the rabbit hole to which it leads. If you use AI for writing your articles, papers, reports and the like; you have lost control of the narrative. It is no longer YOU that is in charge. It is the AI, its code, its training on large language models (LLM), its refinements, and its so-called “intelligen
