The US-backed Saudi incursions into Abu Dhabi got the British to on their feet. In 1951, they recognized the independence of the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman excluding its Trucial coast! In 1952, they created and armed “the Trucial Oman Scouts” to fight back against the Saudis. Then they established and presided over the Trucial States Council to discuss borders and security with the Trucial states, during which the British finally recognized Fujairah’s independence (from both Sharjah and Oman).
