KNOXVILLE, Iowa (KCCI) - As diesel prices remain above $6 per gallon, farmers are asking lawmakers to help during the critical harvest period. The cost of diesel has quickly risen as cargo ships struggle to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. According to AAA, the average price per gallon is $6.27 per gallon, 10 cents higher than last week and $2.77 more than last year at $3.50 a gallon. DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) - This summer, researchers say Iowa is seeing the lowest number of mosquitoes in a decade. That’s due to a dry spring. Iowa State University set up about 100 mosquito traps across the state. So far they’ve caught about 12,000 mosquitoes, the lowest number in 10 years. Ryan Smith is an associate professor who runs the program catching mosquitoes.
