Large cap stocks advanced 1.2% last week, led by tech, comm and health care sectors. S&P 500 is less than 1% from an all-time high but mid and small caps are down over 7.2%. Looking at prior times, most lead to large caps ‘catching down’ like in February 2025, December 2021, and October 2018. The spread got high in June 2024 but the response in large caps was fairly muted. The continued weakness in breadth clearly shows a market that has little support should the winds change for mega cap tech.

Markets closed flat on the week, at least for large caps. Drawdowns have increased for smaller capitalized indices with mids down 7.03% and smalls off by 7.5%. Breadth once again is a concern, a theme that seems to not want to go away but is constantly ignored by the S&P 500. Most stocks are now under their respective 200-day moving average. This comes when the Index is more than 6% above its own. Last time this happened? You’d have go to back to March 2000 and 1999 to find examples of this kind
