    I had planned to write about turning 50 this summer.After spending so much of my sabbatical thinking about the second half of life, it seemed like an obvious moment to take stock. I imagined an essay about what I’d learned, what I wanted more of, and what I was ready to leave behind.I haven’t written it. In fact, I haven’t written anything since June.This summer, my mother-in-law died suddenly. Then my dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer and died soon after. I’ve sat down to write about it
