One of the great pleasures of travelling around Ireland is spotting something unexpected from the road. Recently, we had journeyed to see the spectacular ruins of Timoleague Abbey before driving on to Courtmacsherry for lunch. On the way, we caught sight of two tall masses of masonry rising beside the road. They looked at first rather more like the remains of a small castle than an abbey.
