Hello! Is it Friday yet? Every year I forget how exhausting the beginning of the school year is. Starting up a classroom is kind of like beginning a new job every year. Or getting a bunch of brand new co-workers you need to train every September who are destined to quit in June. Neither of those analogies entirely works, but there’s a huge amount of emotional energy required to train a bunch of kids on every facet of your classroom—how to sign out to go to the bathroom, how to organize their note

Hello hello! This week’s installment of the Bookworm is dedicated to the teachers and parents of school-age kids out there. Today is my first day seeing students for 9th grade orientation and the machine that is school starts up for real on Tuesday. For those of you with little kids (or even big kids), maybe you’ve been ready to send them back for the past…2 weeks? 4? 8? I get it. Hello hello! It’s August! How did that happen? Like every year, I’m always surprised how quickly we slide from the start of summer to the second half of it. I’m trying not to look too closely at the calendar, trying to enjoy the sunshine, the days at the beach, the slower pace, and the lack of an alarm clock (being a teacher is pretty awesome right now). I’m waiting for the back-to-school email which is sure to land in my inbox any day now and trying to remind myself that it’s still EARLY August.

Hello hello! It’s almost August! How is that possible? As always, the season is flying by in a blur of social activities, family time, good books, beach time, and chores I don’t have time for during the school year. There have been many days where evening comes and I wonder where on earth the day went. But I guess that’s summer. <a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!Zttp!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media
